Train lanterns

Old oil lanterns used until the early 80s by the Deutsche Bahn (German railway company) to signal the end of a convoy.

Placed at the last wagon, the lanterns allowed the train driver to ensure that his convoy was complete and the next train to see the presence of a convoy in front of him.
